There is no charge to enter a boat in the parade

Does it cost a lot to light a boat?

It can, but it certainly doesn't have to. A battery, a small inverter and a couple of strings of Lights gets you in the game. A small boat can be decorated for well under 100.00. Of course, the more you do, the more expensisive it gets. One tip for keeping the costs down is to pool resources. Combine two or three families into one boat and rotate years. Many of the larger boats have multiple captains getting together for the event. Get together with some of your dock mates and get one boat lit up and come join us! It is worth the effort. It's a fun night.

Is it Safe?

The organizing committee is dedicated to make sure that Riverlights is fun, safe event. Both the Coast Guard, and local marine law enforcement are involved in the planning and event day operations during the parade. The event date and time are selcted soley on the basis of selecting the best and safest tide and
current conditions to make the event safe and enjoyable for Captains and crew.
The single biggest safety measure we have taken is insisting that each captain refrain completely from acholic beverages until you are back at the dock. Operating a boat is more difficult at night, and even more difficult with the ambient light of your decorations. The Captain must have all his wits about him and keep tabs on his crew. Any captain suspected of being inhibriated will be subject to boarding and enforcement of BUI laws.

Where does the money go?

All after expenses monies collected from Sponsors and Participants goes to St. Vicents Swim Across the Sound.
